GREAT NEWS!
I can hardly believe it! Jenna will be getting her hospital bed! Finally. We have been working on it since July 2010 and I cannot believe it is finally going to be ordered. It was originally denied by Univera Healthcare for lack of medical necessity b/c she is unable to help transfer herself out of bed. So in other words, b/c she is 100% disabled and cannot help support herself getting in and out of bed, it is not medically necessary to have a full electric hospital bed. So we tried to explain to Unvivera (by filing an internal appeal), that we need the full electric b/c of the trendelenberg feature (head down) that helps her during respiratory illness. They do not make manual or semi-electric beds with this feature; only full electric. Univera upheld their decision and still said no b/c she cannot help assist. So we decided that we were not going to give up. We filed an external appeal with them and the case was reviewed by a group and physician in PA. Guess what?! Yep.... WE WON! The physician did agree with us and reversed Univera's decision! That is fantastic news. Jenna's bed has now been ordered. Yay!
